Spend the dash well, young one.

I know, one week until my birthday comes. Another year older, another year wiser (hopefully). While waiting for my mother at the salon, my dad passed me a book titled 'Aging Naturally and Gracefully', saying that "Read this, your birthday is next week".

WHAT ARE YOU HINTING AT, PA? *looks in the mirror to check for wrinkles*

I may squeal at the most random things in the universe, but I really do feel like I have grown up.

For example, Chelsea lost last weekend (to Wigan, of all teams) and instead of being sad about it and going on a binge eating spree, I took the news in and laughed it off.

You never really learn to appreciate a win without learning to lose.

Or, to quote Aerosmith:
"You've got to lose to know how to win"

That's life. You never really appreciate things until they are gone or taken away from you.

Just like rainy days and sunshine, happy days and not-so happy ones are here to stay too. It's basically your choice on how you best deal with it.

I also learnt that if you work hard enough, it will pay off and the results will be glorious.

Don't expect favours from others. Don't expect subsidies. Don't expect lady luck's help. Don't steal things that aren't yours.

I want work hard enough so that at the end of the day, I can enjoy something of my own that I KNOW came from my own blood, sweat and tears. Last year, the masseuse told me that it's important for a girl to have something of her so that there's something she can fall back on and be proud at the fact she owns something of her own right.

I am not defined by a ticky box. I know who and what I am. I don't need the powers that be tell me about my rights and culture. You should know better than to pick on a child who read the Federal Constitution at the age of 12.

I love the little things that make me happy: texts, jokes, e-mails, comments, pictures, songs, random people, videos, tweets. Sometimes, these things make me SO happy, my cheeks hurt. Maybe you don't get it, but it is very important to me because those things I just listed? They keep me (in)sane and happy in more ways than one.

I learnt to overcome a long-time fear. At some point in our lives, we have to face the fears we keep running away from. Be strong, be brave, and begin your story.

I acquired a new skill too. After years of joking about marrying Curtis Stone so he could cook all day long for me, I finally am one with the kitchen utensils and food.

Sometimes, it's okay to look stupid. As long as you're okay with laughing at and with yourself, you're good to go.

I have learnt so much in my life. I thank everyone who has taught me all the vital things I need to know and have made a significant impact in my life. In life, you meet so many people who teach you the most random yet true things about life.

I leave you now with this:
